A five-run outburst in the third inning proved to be the difference as the Phillies AAA ULLL rolled past the Orioles AAA ULLL, 8–1, on Thursday at [Current Location].
The Phillies got on the board early thanks to a sacrifice fly by Hayden A. in the bottom of the first, but a defensive miscue in the second allowed the Orioles to even things up at 1–1.
That tie didn’t last long.
In the bottom of the third, the Phillies broke the game wide open. Jonah L. delivered a two-run single to ignite the rally, followed by a costly Orioles error that brought home two more runs. A wild pitch capped the inning, pushing the lead to 6–1.
The Phillies tacked on two more late, but the damage was already done.
Jonah L. finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a walk from the leadoff spot. Bodie M. and Landon T. chipped in with two hits apiece as the Phillies' offense showed balance and patience.
On the mound, the Phillies’ pitching was lights-out. Starter Aidan L. worked two efficient innings, allowing just two hits and one unearned run. Reliever Sullivan B. slammed the door shut, tossing three hitless innings while striking out five and walking two to earn the win.
Will B. started for the Orioles, giving up six hits and six runs—only three earned—over 3.1 innings, while striking out four. Xander C. and Cavan F. each picked up a hit in the loss, but the Orioles were unable to mount a rally against the stingy Phillies pitching.
With strong pitching, timely hitting, and a big third-inning surge, the Phillies AAA ULLL took control and never looked back.
