I hope you and your family remain safe and well. It’s now been more than six weeks of waiting since our last communication, and three months of COVID impact to our opportunity to play baseball. Now that Loudoun County has entered “Forward Virginia – Phase 2”, ULLL is pleased to announce our plan for a Summer 2020 Return to Baseball.
On Monday evening (8 June), the ULLL Board met via conference call to discuss the potential opportunity to return to play, and the Board voted to conduct a Summer 2020 Scrimmage/Skill Development season for baseball ages 8-12 (2020 Season) beginning on or about 1 July 2020 through on or about 15 August 2020. Thus, we will NOT be offering T-ball or Coach Pitch divisions this summer.
The ULLL Board also voted to conduct a developmental Fall 2020 season (similar to previous fall seasons) for baseball ages 5-13 (2021 Season ages, including T-ball and Coach Pitch). This will also permit Spring 2020 baseball 12YO players who missed the opportunity to play in the Spring 2020 baseball season amid the COVID-19 pandemic to finish in ULLL with one last opportunity to play on the small field this fall, should they choose to do so. (Note: Little League International has clearly stated that these players will not be permitted to play in the Spring 2021 season as baseball 12YO players).
All of these decisions by the ULLL Board presume continuing improvement in our community such that we can conduct baseball activities in a safe and orderly manner.
Over the past week, the ULLL Board prepared the attached 2020 ULLL Return to Play and Guidance Document. This document outlines how our league intends to conduct baseball activities consistent with the Governor’s Executive Orders and Guidance, guidance and return to play requirements of Loudoun County and Loudoun County Parks Recreation and Community Services, and recommendations of Little League International.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF ALL PROSPECTIVE PARTICIPANTS MUST REVIEW AND AGREE TO FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS SUMMARIZED IN THE RETURN TO PLAY PLAN AS PART OF OUR SUMMER 2020 AND FALL 2020 REGISTRATIONS.
Please know that many of the defined procedures and protocols differ from the historical way in which we played recreational baseball in our community, but these steps are being taken to ensure compliance with available guidance in our best effort to keep all players and volunteers safe.
The ULLL Board will review any updated guidance from state, local, or Little League officials and adjust the “Return to Play Plan” as necessary. The current up-to-date version will remain posted on the ULLL website.
Despite all of the challenges with the COVID pandemic this spring, the ULLL Board remains committed to providing the opportunity for the children of western Loudoun County to play baseball when it’s safe to do so.
Therefore, the ULLL Board is pleased to announce that registration for the Summer 2020 Scrimmage/Skill Development season will open this evening at 9:00 PM EDT.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing the children back on the field as soon as we can!
